U.S. Senator Pat Roberts (R-KS) today announced that the Senate passed the 2010 Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Appropriations Conference Report, which includes more than $15.3 million in important Kansas projects. The bill now goes to the President to be signed into law.
"This Interior bill contains millions of dollars for improvements critical to many Kansas communities," Senator Roberts said. "I am pleased the Senate acted quickly to get this legislation to the President's desk as it will ensure more Kansans have access to reliable water supply. These local projects will make significant investments in infrastructure throughout Kansas."
The legislation contains an amendment from Senator Roberts that will allow the EPA to protect and improve the lives of residents living with the daily threat of contamination and health related risks from long abandoned lead and zinc mining should a federal buyout be initiated.
Senator Roberts personally worked to secure the following project:
City of Iola, KS for drinking water and wastewater pipe improvements project-$300,000
City of De Soto, KS for water treatment infrastructure improvements at the Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant-$500,000
National Rural Water Association-$13,000,000. The state receives funding from this national program to help support rural water projects in Kansas.
